Our Ethos

What we believe in and what we do...

The Society encourages the holistic development of the various people groups in the Lamtaput Block and Bonda villages of Khairput Block. AKS is situated in the tribal hinterland of Southern Orissa and serves one of the most backward regions of Orissa – Koraput (KBK). Orissa state falls into the ‘BIMARO’ group, one of the least developed & most poverty stricken states in India (The other states being Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan & Orissa).

What is transformation? What is development? Are the cities of India developed? Is capitalism, materialism, and socialism, development? All of these questions are debatable. And yet, in an increasingly competitive & greed driven world, tribals are at a disadvantage due to their relative isolation and primitiveness.

‘Holism’ - a term coined by the South African statesman Jan Smuts, is defined as "The tendency in nature to form wholes that are greater than the sum of the parts through creative evolution." To AKS, Holistic Development means an improved quality of life with regard to healthy lifestyles, economic productivity, social fulfilment, and spiritual transformation, all in a sustainable manner. Our goal in living and working in these areas and with these people is to enable them to make their own life choices, be healthy, informed, literate, and able to deal on equal terms with the world.

AKS is concerned with the needs and development of the society as a whole - physical, mental, and spiritual.
