The Asha Kiran Society is a non-profit organization registered under the Societies Act of 1860 in the Koraput District of Orissa State. The Asha Kiran Society (AKS) was started in 1991 by a team of young people who wished to work towards the holistic development of the needy in Southern Orissa. The intention of AKS is to develop the holistic health and encourage community empowerment in various groups in the Lamtaput area, and Bondo villages, of Khairput block. The AKS base is located 3 km from Lamtaput block and 40 km from Jeypore on the main district road.
AKS follows the principle of teaching everyone with all wisdom and undertakes various projects to that end. In addition to a secondary level hospital, the Society is involved in Primary Health Care, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Education and Nutrition centres, Mother Tongue Literacy programs, Low Cost Construction, and a Pre-School program. The Literacy, Health, and Development programs extend to the Bonda hills of the Khairput block of the neighbouring Malkangiri district of Orissa. AKS outreach extends into various blocks of Koraput and the near by districts via some 108 staff members. Many of whom are of the local community.
